Frequently Asked Questions
Ditch not draining?
This could be due to several issues.
If it is the ditch that runs in front of your house, please make sure that you have done your due diligence by doing the following things:
- Mow/weedeat the ditch
- Clean out any leaves or debri that may be blocking the culvert
If both of the things above are done and the ditch still isn't draining, please contact City Hall and we will turn a work order in to have the issues assessed by Jefferson County.
Wanting to add an additional driveway or an extension onto your current driveway?
The City's residential drainage ditches are maintained by Jefferson County, therefore, the City must follow Jefferson County rules and guidelines.
The County guidelines only allow 40 feet of driveway per property. Meaning if you currently have a 20 foot wide driveway, the County will only install an additional 20 feet for the entire property whether the additonal 20 feet is an extension onto your current driveway or a separate driveway.
Do you need a new culvert installed?
There are rules and guidelines for culvert installation. Please see the attachment titled "Driveway Guidelines"
- Mark the spot where you want the new driveway or extension.
- You must turn in a culvert install request with City Hall. (See attached form above)
- Once a work order has been put in for a new culvert install, Jefferson County PCT 1 will come out and determine what size culvert you need.
- DO NOT PURCHASE A CULVERT UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY THE CITY WHAT SIZE YOU WILL NEED FOR YOUR LOCATION.
- Once the culvert has been purchased and delivered, please notify City Hall. The City will then send the work order to Jefferson County PCT 1 for installation. PCT 1 will include your work order on their schedule and install it as soon as their schedule allows. You can purchase limestone from the County at the current rate of $364 a load, or you can choose to purchase material to go over the culvert elsewhere. You can also put concrete over your driveway if you would like, however, you must meet the driveway guidelines.
Do you have a concern about a pothole?
Our roads are maintained by Jefferson County PCT 1 as well. The City pays for all materials. If you notice potholes or other street damage, please report it to the City of Bevil Oaks, so it can be properly reported and inspected by Jefferson County PCT 1.
